  1. Last Action Hero: Issues with CRANE targets and skill shot

I just recently picked up a Data East Last Action hero from a friend. The previous owner had shorted out a bunch of chips on the MPU by doing some soldering work while the machine was plugged in. This fried the switch matrix and so all switches were firing at once. I had board work done on the...
  2. The Origin of the Polybius Hoax

I haven't been on KLOV in a very long time, so I missed Stiletto's comment up until now. Which is a shame, because it seems he/she is the person who originally pinned this internet hoax on Cyber Yogi. I find it interesting that he/she said in another thread: "I would totally help with the...
  3. Upcoming Denver auction - use caution.

Keep in mind that the auctioneers get a % of the final selling price, so they're motivated to get the prices up as high as possible. The basic tenant of capitalism is that profit justifies all, so any and all dirty tricks will be employed to maximize return. I don't trust any of these auctions...
  4. Anyone here collect CAVE pcbs? What did you pay?

Neo Geo is the best system ever, or at least best arcade system ever. I used to deal a lot on neo-geo.com and I almost exclusively used the trading forums. It's too bad it has devolved into a mob over there, I really liked that board. The dude proudly selling his used real doll on there added...
  5. Warrior shipping today!!!!

All because he couldn't fulfill the demand for 150 overlays over the span of 3 years. He didn't want to make them himself, but didn't trust anyone else to do them, so it just never happened. The game is finished, it isn't vaporware or anything. He just couldn't finish the stupid overlays. He's...
  6. Anyone here collect CAVE pcbs? What did you pay?

Cave actually sent a cease and desist to MAME in regards to their latest games, so the newest builds of MAME don't let you play Mushihimesama and most of Cave's games. I ended up getting an old version just so I could play them. The one I'd actually want a board for is Mushihimesama, it runs...
  7. NEW AND IMPORTANT December Rocky Mountain Region Monthly GTG

I can probably make it out for this. Should be a good time.
  8. New VidKidz Robotron update- Robo2k14, the "Tie-Die" romset

So Larry Demar and Eugene Jarvis are both involved in this project, working off of the original source code?
  9. arcade game article in IEEE spectrum mag

Great stuff, I love the old magazines. It's so awesome that digitpress has Electronic Games, Blip, Electronic Fun, etc.
  10. R-Type vs Pulstar

Just play In The Hunt, Gunforce, and Gunforce 2 and it's obvious it was the same people who made Metal Slug. Metal Slug started out as just a land version of In The Hunt, you only played in the tanks, but players didn't like that so they added the ability to play on foot. Anyway, I definitely...
  11. NEW Project kajitsu: Usb-jamma controller based on raspberry pi... Oh, and its free!

Android-based MAME machines are extremely viable. The problem is everyone is focused on the Raspberry Pi, which isn't that great of value when compared to the K-R42, which is 1.6ghz quad core with 2GB RAM, actual audio output, etc, for $63. Sure, it's almost twice as much as the Pi, but it's...
  12. BLS Reports That The Average Arcade Operator Makes $15.16 Per Hour

It would be much more interesting to know how much the machines themselves are earning on location, especially based on type of business (arcade, bowling alley, casino, mall, movie theater, bar etc). I suspect there's a large discrepancy in income based on the actual location. Obviously Pacman...
  13. Beavis and Butthead arcade, who has one?

I find it very interesting that it runs off of a modified 3DO. Could you elaborate on what's modified about it, Scott? Is it simply rewired to work as an arcade computer (i.e. rewired power button, obviously the controls are rewired, etc)? Can you pop the disc into a regular 3do and play it with...
  14. Neo geo jamma board model variety question

Probably for memory cards. You were able to save games on memory cards on the MVS and then also use them on the AES. No idea what games actually utilized this feature (or maybe it was mostly for high scores?). I remember one of my MVS boards also had an input for one of the AES controllers.
  15. NEW Games Not in KLOV

I had never heard of Sega NetMerc before. So you were the guy who went through all the trouble of getting it shipped out from Australia, only to have to track down an original dev in Iceland to get it repaired? So is it all fully working now? I guess it wouldn't be possible to get gameplay...
