Thank you. So it is the picture tube that holds the charge? I wasn't sure if it was that or a cap on the other end of the cable. So once the cable is off, is it safe to work on everything else? (Even if you are not sure it discharged)?

I tried to discharge my monitor but there was no pop and the suction cup popped off. I tried to ground (to the frame) the cable and the CRT but nothing. What do I do now? I'm not sure about this whole thing. Is there a way to check voltage to know it's safe?

Looking closely, I can see the core and it is hollow. The core seems to be closer to the board (not centered in the coil). It doesn't seem like I could use a flat or phillips. How do I make the adjustment? Are you talking about a plastic screwdriver or something else?
