Update: Apparently all 12 optical hole sensors on the playfield are verified by
the game at start-up. If any sensor fails (LED will flash red), the game won't
start (according to the service manual) until the sensor is replaced or
repaired. Since these sensors relate to the 12 sequential holes...
Page 14 in the Owner's and Service manual states "when the game is first powered on, all of the hole sensors are tested. If any of them fail, the L.E.D. located over the hole will flash red and the game will not work."
Looks like all of the sensors must work properly, and then the game may play...
I removed the back board from the playfield and cleaned all the opto switches with windex and Q-tips. It appears that there is definitely one opto that is bad (it acts as if the beam is broken all of the time). I disconnected the opto but the start-up problem is unchanged. I'm wondering if a bad...
