amazingly it seems to have been that simple. Just more grease. Will be interesting to see how long it stays quiet. To answer specifics about the gears...The gears are 1) a work of art (not that that matters but they are beautiful) and 2) yes, silky smooth

Unfortunately, it’s not the washer. Even with felt jammed in there and the washer wrapped in duct tape it makes the noise. I wonder if some of it is the new metal gears Vs original plastic…?? Still seems really loud though
I tightened what I thought might be causing it but it’s still doing it. It feels like it’s coming from these two metal arms hitting the center, but even when I put pads on it, the sound is almost identical.
Thanks. The rubber is there and I even put some felt on the metal arms just to see. I’ll keep searching. There seems to be a little slop in the rod that those arms are connected to so I’m going to start there thanks
I rebuilt my steering with all new brass gears. Feels smooth as silk and works great but it makes this noise that I don’t recall it making before but maybe I just never noticed…much louder in video but can you guys check your machines and see if yours does this too? Many thanks
