  1. Space Invaders Board Problems

No, just the cap kit itself. The monitor works, it's just dim. Could the flyback also cause dimness? Doing some more reading, where is a good test point to check for the 73V coming off the regulator? What should the voltage be coming from the pcb?
  2. Space Invaders Board Problems

I don't think it's grime, I've already cleaned both the mirror and monitor, and it's got a new white black light bulb in there. It's dim even looking directly at the monitor.
  3. Space Invaders Board Problems

Cap kit installed, but the monitor is still too dim to play without watching the monitor itself. Turning brightness up goes to a white screen with stronger white lines (wrapping?), contrast works on the low end, it goes to an all black screen; but it's choppy on the way. Is there something...
  4. Space Invaders Board Problems

That's for the help guys, I'm now waiting on a cap kit from Bob Roberts along with some new leg levelers. After tipping it over, well, it was hard to move because there were no leg levelers. Bottom couple inches has some delamination as well. Eh, I'll get it bright and happy then deal with...
  5. Midway A082-90400-x000 Power Supply

ElektronForge's power supply guide was very helpful in troubleshooting my power supply. He has pictures of exactly where to measure for each voltage. http://www.elektronforge.com/TestMdwPS.htm
  6. Space Invaders Board Problems

Finally got the chance to sit down and replace the 4006 chip. That fixed the sound issues with the base explosion and the shooting sound. It's now 100% functional. Of course that just leaves me with deciding just how much of a restoration to do. I'll clean it up first and see what the major...
  7. Space Invaders Board Problems

I got the 74LS74 yesterday and popped it in today. It works! Coins up and most sounds working. As they should be since I replaced a lot of the audio stuff while waiting to figure out the coin up problem. The shooting sound is just a high pitched squeal and when you die there's an audible dip...
  8. Space Invaders Board Problems

    It's a 7414, typo. Sorry :)
  9. Space Invaders Board Problems

I cut a trace right past the solder point on pin 8 and made sure there was no connectivity. Pin 8 now has no response to anything, it's neither high nor low, just dead. That implicates that chip, right? On that note, these don't seem to be as common to find. Anyone have a good source? Any...
  10. Space Invaders Board Problems

Okay, looked at the coin loop in the schematics. It should enter at pin 9 on the 741 (I called it 7931) at C2 and exit at pin 8. Pin 8 does not change state when pin 9 does. It's low the whole time, and sounds like garbage. By that I mean that it doesn't create a clean sound like a constant...
  11. Space Invaders Board Problems

None yet, I was busy yesterday and didn't even look at it. I did get some parts from digikey so I'll try to fix the sound today.
  12. Space Invaders Board Problems

Okay, I have the signal solid through the pin 8 of the 1K SIP resistor just above the 7931 at C2. Past that it's gone, I believe it should be following out of the left side pin 1, marked with the white dot, but no. None of the other pins change state. Pin 2,3,4 are ~0.5K, while 5-9 are 1K...
  13. Space Invaders Board Problems

Logic probe came in today, pin 3 on the 11 pin connector, which I believe is the coin pin, goes from high to low when the switch is closed and back to high when it's open. That seems like it should be normal behavior. Suggestions? Thanks for the encouragement, I never realized that Space...
  14. Space Invaders Board Problems

Ordered a logic probe today, we'll see if that helps find the cause of the missing credits. Unfortunately, the 1N4004 below the 1000uF cap did not fix the sound. I have ~16V at the power supply and off the pins on the sound board; a good connection to the speaker as well. There is a hum...
  15. Space Invaders Board Problems

Okay new question. That didn't take long did it? I cannot add credits. The switch and all the wiring back to the pins on the board seem correct and have the correct continuity when the coin switch is engaged. It has the 5V on one leg, but no credits can be added. Is this a common problem...
