  1. Restoration questions

Yeah. I think I'm going to grab a can of Krylon semi-gloss unless someone knows what it actually is. It's hard to tell at this stage since the original is fairly worn and has been waxed.
  2. Restoration questions

I should clarify these are the wooden rails on the playfield; perhaps there's a more appropriate name for them. I know later playfields used some kind of iron-on material, but FG has some rounded corners which would be hard to handle with this, so the question becomes what paint and primer to...
  3. Restoration questions

I'm going to keep this thread a bit generic since I'm sure I'm going to have a bunch of questions as I trudge through this swap, so here we go! I'd like to give the rails in my Flash Gordon swap a fresh coat of paint before installing them. However they were milwaxed several times. 1) Will...
  4. Space Invaders. Multiple bad solenoids

Yes, but the knocker is generally located in the cabinet or backbox. It may have a separate power wire or use a different connector. With that in mind you should also be on the lookout for broken and/or burnt connectors if you're missing voltage at the coils.
  5. Space Invaders. Multiple bad solenoids

To be clear, All of the solenoids on the playfield are out except the flippers? I suspect you're not getting voltage to the solenoids. 1) Check fuses (There are some solenoid related fuses under the PF as well as on the rectifier board) 2) Check voltage at the coil lugs 3) Check ground paths...
  6. Boards from scratch

Swapped the whole trough with a Stern 4 ball. It BAAARELY fit, but works fine. I had to run a dedicated wire for +5v for the opto board but I just tied the ground into the lamp ground. The optos work fine in the matrix, I didn't need to modify any code even. Just fired it up and it worked...
  7. Star Trek: Mirror Universe Pinball

Not familiar with magnasave directly, but my ZOE project is using the RG magnet assembly. The basic setup is pretty simple. The magnet is basically just a standard coil with the plunger in a fixed position. Instead of the plunger moving, it the plug acts as an electromagnet. As for...
  8. Newbie...still: Pin care , 1st cleaning & expectations

Tron does have some factory mylar. I dont' remember the exact spots but somewhere around the pop bumpers for sure, and I think there's also a strip on the exit path of the arcade scoop but don't quote me on that.
  9. Gottlieb Strange World

A-16570 has a diode on it. I'm not sure if this is normal but are you sure you installed the lugs in the correct order with respect to the diode? If it's backwards then this kind of thing would happen.
  10. Black Knight - Smokin!

Probably some kind of horrific short. I'd pull all connectors and start checking voltages step by step from the power board forward.
  11. Polishing large parts

I'll give that a shot. I think elbow grease alone isn't going to murder some of these rust spots so I might grab some polishing tools for my dremel as a fallback. I took a few "before" shots of the current state. I'm fairly certain this guy was left out in the rain for a while. :(...
  12. Polishing large parts

I'm about to endeavor on a PF swap on my old Flash Gordon. It's going to be a long arduous process for sure, but I figure I have at least a month of cure time anyway so I might as well take my time and do it right. As such I want to take this chance to polish all the metal bits. I've read on...
  13. rail fell out of playfield- how to put back?

They're pressure fit, just pop them back in.
  14. Mr Mrs Pac Man Pin Basket Case - Calling for Help!

Yes. If you install them wrong the switch matrix will not work correctly. The diode direction should be consistent across the matrix, so you can just compare against other switches to determine the correct direction.
  15. right flipper coil hum- what is happening?

Most coil deaths are due to their environment; bad flipper hardware will destroy a coil in short order. I'd hold off on swapping the coil until you've solved whatever intrinsic problems exist in the flipper mech. Once done, inspect the coil for damage. If you still get smooth operation out of...
