personally, wouldn't work for me.
the core gameplay/dynamic is navigating that horizontal rectangle and in an stretched aspect i'd feel like i have to re-learn to play all over again
but that said, ZK is an unexpectedly fun game, and if that's your only way to play it, then go for it
i'd avoid moisture if necessary. i've had to rescue a few rat houses as well, and in my experience i just gutted the cabinet completely, vaccumed, concrobium'd, and let it sit in the sun for several days (out during the day, in the shop at night).

yes, some kind of glossy water-proof'ish coating over those sides on the Universal tri-stripe cabinets (at least LB). on my Lady Bug it's been picked away but somewhat there.
although on my Cosmic Avenger it's totally missing - dunno if intentionally or from the factory

but the merits of the band aside, the game is even worse than Tron. remove the band Journey identity from the game and even professed fans of game would think it's shit
