The controls is no longer reverse. It was my lack of understanding regarding how a pot works. Now that I correctly reversed the wiring, the controller is responding correctly.
Someone from another post alerted me to how the pot connectivity works. Apparently, to reverse it, I have to reverse the ground and the +5 volts.
