Okay, Let's say I DID want to try replacing one or more of my Z80s. Are they or something equivalent still manufactured or do I need to try to find a vintage part?
Also, now that I think about it, my Z80s actually say "NEC" on them and not "Zilog" or for that matter "Z80". Does this mean...

Yeah, That was the problem alright. Either one of my Z80s was bad or was not making a good connection. I switched two of them (4J and 4M)...
Nope, no luck. The connector was pretty dirty, but after cleaning it and making sure that none of the socketed ICs were loose I am still having the same problem.
Is there anything else obvious I should try?
