Hey, welcome. I'm just down the road from you in Dorset. Good luck finding your grail cab, I found mine a few months ago and when you find it it makes all the searching worthwhile.
  2. Hard Drivin' steering issue

Hey Dan, good to meet you :) Thanks for the link, I had already discovered Jed Margolin's site but hadn't previously looked at the particular page you linked to. There's some useful stuff about the motor and amplifier board on there so thanks again, I will have a proper read through it later.
  3. Hard Drivin' steering issue

Well it looks like it must be the brushes in my case, as it's the same with the new pot installed. I ran out of time to look at replacing those at the same time though - did have a quick look but it wasn't obvious how to get inside the motor as it looked like the inspection panel was held in...
  4. Hard Drivin' steering issue

Well I changed the pot at the weekend and it made no difference, so I guess the problem in my case must be the brushes. If you have trouble finding the right pot I can send you the one I took out of my game, as there's obviously nothing wrong with it. All I would ask is that you pay the postage...
  5. Hard Drivin' steering issue

Ah, so those are the brushes. Not so OT after all then. I guess there's no harm in me installing the 2 new looking ones while I've got the steering assembly out then - hopefully between replacing those and the pot it will sort out the twitchy steering.
  6. Hard Drivin' steering issue

Yep it's a 10 turn pot. I would have thought it should be centred too, but in the manual it says to turn it all the way anti-clockwise, then turn it clockwise just a little (15 degrees), so who knows... :D The bit I find a bit confusing is, once you've installed the new pot, it says to check...
  7. Hard Drivin' steering issue

Right, I finally had a chance over the weekend to remove the dash/steering assembly (holy cr@p it was heavy, mostly due to the that hoofing great FF motor I guess). Now I know what the pot looks like, I checked the bag of spares that were tucked away in the back of my cab and there are two...
  8. Hard Drivin' steering issue

Yep, it's a cockpit version. I had no idea that meant no optos. After looking at the steering fault-finding flowchart in the manual I did try a square wave test, but wasn't really sure what I was meant to be looking for. I remember the steering didn't twitch at all though. Anyway I'll try the...
  9. Hard Drivin' steering issue

Thanks for the replies guys, what you said about the steering pot makes sense when you put it like that. I think I have a spare pot that came with the game, no idea if it's for the steering but I'll have a look at the weekend.
  10. Hard Drivin' steering issue

My Hard Drivin' has developed an annoying little issue with its steering - when playing the game (or when it's running in attract mode), the steering wheel constantly twitches, like the FF motors are pulsing slightly. It's not a huge issue at the moment, but it's gradually getting worse and will...
  11. Hard Drivin' - Zeropower RAM and brake pedal

Well I fixed the brake pedal. It wasn't the strain gauge after all (phew), and only took half an hour in end, with no new parts needed. I removed the clutch/brake pedal assembly today and cleaned it up first, as it was quite badly clogged with dust which made it hard to see what was what. Then...
  12. Hard Drivin' - Zeropower RAM and brake pedal

Hey, I recognise that username from ukvac & dlf :) (I'm dannyboy on those sites). Like hatrick I've been following your resto with interest too, and am trying to gradually restore my HD cockpit, although my technical skills are limited. I'm sure I tried RS UK but couldn't see any T02/Z02's...
  13. Hard Drivin' - Zeropower RAM and brake pedal

Yeah mine had the manuals in there too, plus a few spare parts (pots, springs and a cable) which I guess the original op left in there. Spare parts are always useful, but at the same time it's kinda worrying as I'm not sure if they should've been fitted! Doh, I feel stupid now. I was thinking...
  14. Hard Drivin' - Zeropower RAM and brake pedal

Wow, maybe mine isn't so bad after all. That's a LOT of dust :D I put mine back together earlier and all seems good, the new zrams are working fine. One funny thing I didn't realise though, is you can't set the clock past 1999. I guess the Y2K bug would kick in..... I hadn't even noticed that...
  15. Hard Drivin' - Zeropower RAM and brake pedal

Got the chips yesterday - I went for the timekeeper in the end as there was a minimum order charge from the company I used (Farnell), but they were still cheaper than Mouser in the UK. Removing the PCB and the two ZRAM chips was surprisingly easy, I thought it was gonna be more difficult than...
