Re: Close a little. Off by a lot.
I've been playing the game since I got my power back and it brings back so many good memories. My only complaint is that the modeled terrian background is missing in MAME. I'm looking into how to fix that.
BTW, does anyone have a picture of the terrian? Would...
Close a little. Off by a lot.
Something like that. LOL. The search is over and I have the name of the game. The name is.......Dark Planet by Stern.
Here is the game on KLOV. http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=798
I would like to thank Dan Amrich, Senior Editor, and Fennec Fox...
Maybe it was a prototype but why would a small arcade in a not so large city like Lynchburg (not known for being on the technology edge then or now) in the early 80's have a proto?
Hmmm...looks like that there is a missing game to be discovered out there. I would appreciate it if anyone who...
KrK, TexasHotshot and anyone else who has racked their brain over this game....Thanks for the help.
I've searched TKLOV and other places so much that my eyes hurt.
globey...that was funny. =)

I would like to put an APB out on this game. Please pass this around.
I don't remember it having buttons for steering the ship, so I assume that it was a joystick. This I'm sure of. Being I stayed away from games that required buttons to steer (except for Asteroids) at that age.
I only remember it having one button to fire your ship's lasers.
As for the cabinet...
LOL. That's one of the disadvantages of being a graphic artist, you remember visuals perfectly but forget names quickly. That and the fact I was around 10 years old.
I'm about 1/3 of the way finished on my example.
It's not Starhawk either. The view of the game is of looking down on the playfield from above.
I'm almost finished with my animated example of what I remember it looking like. I should have it finished by tomorrow.
It had a moving monorail with a track extending from the top of the screen to the left of the screen. There was no color overlay.
The game also had an almost 3-D quality to it when you were shooting spacships while you were flying overhead. Almost as if were projecting it on a glass in front of...
