I had the same problem on a Silverball mania......luckily I had a Nitrogroundshaker soundboard to test with, after replacing all the socketed chips with known good ones......no love the NGS board worked perfect in the SBM so I knew it was in the board,
FIXED!!!! turned out it...
get a manual
Rich, do yourself a big favor and buy the manual it will have the info you are looking for in it as well other info you will need down the line.......ebay always has some or better yet go to http://www.pbresource.com/ steve will have one plus many more factory parts
coil info
not sure what the J and AE stand for but the 26 is the wire gauge and the 1500 is the number of turns of wire on the coil.......... so it should ohm out at the same value as the old coil

i may be stating the obvious, but in general the transistors will turn each other on smallest to largest to complete the coil circuit to ground via the switch matrix which would trigger the smallest transistor, either the switch matrix is triggering it or something else is...

Help NEED PARTS!!!!!picked up a 1971 Chicago Coin Sharpshooter and found out it is missing the trigger assy and guard, also need the mounting piece that swivels that is attached to the base via 2 big setscrews. Any leads would be appreciated
