If I remember correctly, you are correct. I'm fairly the only difference in the cards is the artwork.

I've used the LCD upgrade on most of my sega rear projections at work (Confidential Mission, Maze of Kings, 18 Wheeler). They work well with no issues. It is fairly easy to install as well.

On mine: when you open the back of the game there are a couple of boards mounted to the underside of the control panel. The games ATX power supply needs to be connected in 2 seperate places in this area. One is directly to one of the boards...
Like he said, that one will work. Just buy the length you need. If your game just has the binding posts (screws) on the power supply side: cut the end off this cord and strip the wires.
I've replaced the video card in mine with an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. ATI part# 109-A07500-00.
This model has the 128MB of ram, but I'm sure the 256 will work as well. It just needs to have the same chipset.
I've used the RS one for years without any major issue. I have chewed up a board or two though. I think that has been because of the angle that I've had to hold it. It is a bit culmsy.

Technically it's recomended to replace the starter at the same time as the lamp. In the real world that does not matter much.
Any reputable light bulb supplier should be able to get you both the starter and the ballast.
