Battery Upgrade

that farthest right ground solder point was such a pain to desolder (the one that goes around the board lol). I ended up doing this to a robotron and a joust, i got the battery and holder off of 2 old dead motherboards to boot lol.

For something like that you are better off using either a 60-80w iron or a solder gun even. The ground plain acts like a big heat sink so you need lots and lots of heat.

I know there are loads of guys here on KLOV that would frown upon that... but for years I soldered with a 60w iron(bitd before I knew better :)). Yeah I would burn things once in a while but for the most part I got used to using that much heat.

It's really all about what you are comfortable with.

exactly, i was using my 60ish watt hakko 926 w/ 907 iron on it and i had to crank the heat up, i went to reflow the header panel last night and decided to stay away from the ones attached to that large ground.

I too am getting use to this iron, i love it. the temp is adjustable so i just keep it in the 625-675 range unless i'm desoldering then i turn it up around 700.
