Default atari big blue caps.

I hate to ask a stupid question, but searched the forums and couldn't find anything.... How do you replace a Atari big blue cap? do you have to do any soldering or just it just pop off and the new one pop in... Do you have to discharge the cap or anything? I'm green to P/S repairs and can't find anything online related to this.

Just unscrew the terminals and screw them into the new one. Just don't mix 'em up...heh.

the old one should have a plus sign marked on the positive terminal. The new ones BOB has actualy has both positive and negative marked. it will be on the bottom of the cap where the terminal screws in.

Also they are only 12.50 plus shipping and can fix a lot of strange problems even problems people think are monitor related.

You should see something like this when you flip over the power supply:

They do nothing other than filter the 10.3VDC unregulated which is used to generate the +5. They have to be really far gone before changing them makes any difference.

My 10.3 on my Millipede is like 12.3 or so. should I bother replacing it then if the other voltages are fine?

10.3V *unregulated*

As long as it's over about 7V, it doesn't matter.
