Default New Google Sketchup arcade models

OK everyone, this is the official Google Sketchup arcade model thread.

For those of you who have not read the other thread or know the program, let me explain.

Google Sketchup is a free program which is available for download. The program is geared toward people who have a fascination with making digital models based off of many everyday things. It is a great tool to use if you've ever wondered how best to plan and layout your private gameroom or whatever. Works basically the same as graph paper and square cutouts, but is easier to "see" the space in 3D.

Once you have downloaded the program, go to the 3D warehouse and type in a search for anything you need, from couches and toilets to cabinets and beer bottles.

Like TM520's awesome Paper model thread, let's showcase our arcade layouts, arcade cabinet mock-ups, or typical questions on the program here, to make it easier for new folks to find in a search engine. I think we've pillaged and plundered Arcadenut's Gameroom layout thread long enough. And the ongoing interest from KLOVers to create layouts and models is deserving of it's own thread now.

Here is the original thread for future reading:
http://forums.arcade-museum.com/show...oogle+sketchup

To help track down great-looking arcade models that have already been created and available for downloading, I've organized some of our stuff below. The files are relatively small, hogging less than 1mb to 10mb a peice.

Arcadenut Models:

DogP Models:

Gibbous models:

Gozer5454 models (Alphabetically organized):

James_in_MD models

Jeffsgames models:

JeffC models:

KillerKades models:

Tbombaci models:

theShanMan models:

Zork40 models:
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehou...5427&scoring=m

Frizzlefried Models:
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehou...9103&scoring=m

These are great databases to find arcade cabinets that have been made and ready to install into your layout, so you can better configure wall space. There are a few other random games floating in the 3D warehouse, so feel free to crap-shoot "arcade" in a search there.

Wow...really cool thread gozer. Thanks for getting these all in one place. Sketchup is such a great program. I made a model of a movie theater at one point, and wanted to put the actual games that they had in the correct spot in the model. Looking in the libraries then, there was very little to choose from. Now you could make a complete sketchup arcade.

I'd also toyed around with the idea of making a 720 model, but now see there are a few already made.

Thanks for the post - it'd be very cool to keep this updated with new models as they're created or found.

Exactly my thinking. Much easier to just look at this one thread see newly added models, people starting new collections, arcade layouts, or even general questions. Sort of what was going on with Arcadenut's thread but now in it's own thread.

And yes, I do have a 720 model, but it is not accurate. But I'll be going back and revising it with arts and accurate measurements pretty soon.

PS. Very cool model you made Jeff.

Here's my first attempt at making a cab from scratch. I am having one problem though. The angled area above the coin door... I can past a texture in that angled area but it WILL NOT allow me to modify the dimensions of the texture, etc... basically the whole TEXTURE option is missing when I right click on it. Everywhere else is fine, but not the angled part?! Any suggestions?

Again... I can paste... but I can't modify what I paste...

That's really good, Frizz! I still need to do my Pub Time Darts. Thanks for the inspiration!

Very damn good for a first attempt from scratch! You should have seen my first attempt...not pretty.

Uh......

So what is the question? Texture is messed up or something? Are you trying to 'paint' the square area or install a pic onto it. Because it is a flat surface, seems like the easiest method is to File, Import, locate the jpeg files to install there, then place it as an image on the face. Just be sure to begin installing the image on the bottom left corner of the square face, then pull up to the upper right corner. Once it is placed, it'll probably be a little too wide or tall. While the image is still covered in the blue perimeter colors, click the scale icon on the left toolbar there, and move the cursor over the image. You'll see boxes on the image's midpoints. Click and drag the top or right midpoints to get it to fit inside the area you need.

Ah... I had no idea you could "import" flat 2d art... I'd been "painting" the artwork on.

Here... How's this?
