I picked up this Centipede in Auguest, 2008 as a part of a batch purchase (Xevious, Centipede, Mortal Kombat in a Ms Pac cabinet, and a couple other odds and ends). It worked well, although the monitor has some bad burn-in from a few other games. It had some water damage here and there, and some of the particle board neeed some rebuilding.

The worst part is the sides had been spray-painted orange and green at some point in it's life as well.

Check out the pics... (http://www.flickr.com/photos/29807421@N04/sets/72157606905501088/)

On the up-side:

- The previous owner installed a new CP overlay
- He also replaced the top light fixture
- He supplied me with 3 coin-doors for this in various states of completion, along with a spare power supply.

On the down-side:

After I stripped the cabinet, the particle board needed a lot of attention. Aside from the obvious bondo areas, I also needed to sand all the edges back to flat (the edges were all starting to spread at the t-molding) and apply lots of Elmer's wood hardener. I've never used it before, but now I swear by it. VERY good for hardening the entire leading edge of a game.

I worked on this one about 5 weekends off and on. Thanks for the advice and tips as I went along!

nice work

I am at the beginning of this same process. I am still fixing edges on my pede, you have helped motivate me to get some work done now.

A+ results my man

Wood laminate flooring (of which I have two boxes lying around extra from the flooring job in my house) doesn't stick to Bondo!

Brilliant - I won't forget that tip.

On laminate and Bondo...

Bondo will adhere if left to set for the full curing period. I just pop the laminate off once it's set (like 5 minutes after it hardens). Don't let it on there for the full 30 minutes, or you may have different results. http://forums.lymphoma.com/forums.arcade-museum.com/images/ubbgraemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for documenting this. It shows that it is possible.

I have two Centipede cabinets that are currently housing Commando games. Hopefully I can get enough parts to get one of them turned back into a Centipede.

Was the bezel glass?

Yup, original glass bezel and marquee. The bezel has some slight bubbling on the right hand side that I may want to take care of before too much time goes by.
