View Full Version : My first complete restoration, Galaga

So I've been at this hobby since late February, I've got a couple cabinets that I have fixed, a couple I rehabbed the cabinets, but this will be my first "restoration". I use the word restoration because I am restoring the cabinet back to it's original look. I did, however jamma-tize the inside and put a 4-way joystick on it instead of the original.
I say 99% complete because I have not attached the kickplate (laying on floor in front of it) and I am waiting on the green tmolding. The monitor is in there now, I took the picture the night before last...

So I guess I am looking for comments... (begging for compliments?)
I will post the "Before" Picture when I get home, since it is not on my photobucket account...

Looks awesome! The hard work pays off http://forums.lymphoma.com/forums.arcade-museum.com/images/ubbgraemlins/grin.gif
Personally I would stick with the black T-Molding but that's just me. I'm not going to knock you for it... this time http://forums.lymphoma.com/forums.arcade-museum.com/images/ubbgraemlins/tongue.gif

Looking good. Is that a Plex or a glass bezel? You installing a 48 in 1 or did you just wire it for Jamma so you can toss in a 48 in 1 whenever you get board of just galaga?

I have black, but saw someone elses on here and thought it looked good with green. Then I made the mistake of showing my wife. Now it will be green whether I like it or not http://forums.lymphoma.com/forums.arcade-museum.com/images/ubbgraemlins/grin.gif
It will have a 48-1 in it, that's the reason for the 4-way js as well.

Did it start out a ms pac cab? the coin door is too low and shouldn't overlap the kickplate art. otherwise it looks beautiful.

Thanks for pointing out my one mistake!
But to retaliate by correcting you - the coin door is not too low, the art is about .5" too high. I put it on before the coin door and forgot to allow for the door frame.

I did notice that as well but didn't want to burst your bubble http://forums.lymphoma.com/forums.arcade-museum.com/images/ubbgraemlins/frown.gif
Still looks great!
I could give a shit about purists! http://forums.lymphoma.com/forums.arcade-museum.com/images/ubbgraemlins/grin.gif I saw Frizz's green T-Molding, and thought it looked great. Green is sweet.
Nice work. Looking forward to the before pics.

I agree with the green. I just built a galaga out of a ms pac and put green t-mold on it because I liked friz's. I will post some some pics in a couple of days. (blue looks nice too)

Great job on the restore!
Can't wait to see it with the green T-molding.

IIRC Friz's machine was originally a galaxian... so technically the green t-molding is original in that case. Free pass for Friz... the rest of you get -1. Friz does get a -1 for not restoring the galaxian so I guess it all works out...

I've found that when doing restorations, the resulting game plays much better if I pull off the protective paper from the new bezel.

That's sound advice right there. http://forums.lymphoma.com/forums.arcade-museum.com/images/ubbgraemlins/smirk.gif
rtubr0 nice job so far. In case you don't already have some on hand, be sure to buy some Novus #1 for when you want to clean that bezel. Never use Windex and don't use paper towels either; you'll scratch the hell out of it. Use Novus and a soft microfiber cloth.

Thats a nice looking galaga. I kinda wish I had built this last mspac cab into a galaga, instead I put it back to a mspac. Im working on a galaxian right now.
There is nothing better than sitting back and looking at a game you brought back to life. I have several games that were probably better off going to the dump but you couldnt tell it now.
Add another vote for the green T.

Looks much better than a TimeSoldiers Cab http://forums.lymphoma.com/forums.arcade-museum.com/images/ubbgraemlins/smile.gif
Kevin
PS: This is the cab I been trying to trade for a generic cab on the forum for past 2 years.

Looks good man! I used green on my galaga, looks better and matches the green on the side art. Your gonna want a 2nd button for alot of the games.. unless you have another machine with a 48-1 then it really doesn't matter much.
