At the risk of upsetting folks that don't want to see more forum sections, I'd like to propose one more.

By popular demand we are banning price police. The minority of people that like the price police posts (some strongly) believes it protects new or unsophisticated users from being ripped off, etc. One problem is that such 'help' is often not asked for, either from the sellers or potential buyers. At the same time, sometimes potential buyers and sellers have legitimate pricing questions. Right now they show up in all sorts of places (General Discussion, For Sale, Wanted, Chat About Anything).

I created a 'Pricing Help Wanted' forum as a sub-forum under the wanted section. It would be a place where pricing advice could be asked for, as long as it wasn't a backhanded attempt at price policing.

Please look at the section and read the first post. Since it is a proposal, you can't post it in.

Why not set up a Klov price guide to vintage arcade games.

Take the avarege price a game sold for in last 2 years, and not only Ebay or craigslist but members should be able to comment when they got the game cheaper or more expensive :(.

For watches and other stuff there are price quides, mostly Published by Schiffers books for collectors.


So why not make a list, you guys smart enough to link klov games to the latest Ebay results which I think is an Excellent feature as when you visit klov and look up your long desired game or the game you currently own, then at the bottom is the Ebay result one click away, that's just perfect.

Now put an estimate in there in that Klov page, you know gather data and make a value, it will not be 100% but near, Maybe KLOV will gain more notoriety (a Walter Day word :D) because of this which is always a good thing.

If we all put some effort in to this it could work.
It would not be so hard as this is just statistics and if the Mods got some programs that calculate, well then we can be on our way :)

Personally, I never visit any Subforums. I've yet to see a sub forum on any forum that isn't a graveyard.

If I want pricing help on a game, I will post it in the general arcade forum so I can get the biggest amount of feedback.

I agree that the subforums just aren't easy to visit.
Is there any way to make them nested better or more visible?

Not sure why a "PRICE CHECK" post in the General Forum isn't sufficient. It would get much more traffic and much more response than a sub-forum...

I think if you make a sub forum for this the only people that will visit it will be the price police types that like to devalue stuff. I dont know how accurate the pricing would be in this format.

You can't. Try too hard and you'll end up pissing off everyone, and damage the usability of the forums. It's not that hard to ignore 'price check' questions in the general forums, and they don't happen that often to be a big deal. I'd just say that you should specify which forum they should go in (general discussion would be my choice).

If they ask for a price check they get price checks. If they don't ask and get price checks that is price policing. Frankly, pricing is very subjective based off of area and I have often seen people accused of price policing when the price quoted would be completely acceptable in low cost/low population areas...

Ok... I'm not seeing a lot of supporters for a 'Pricing Help Wanted' sub-forum.

If it doesn't get its own section, how about keeping these threads in the Videogame/Pinball Wanted Section. So it wouldn't be just games/parts/etc wanted, but also pricing help wanted.

-- I like keeping such questions in the trading post area of the forums. It keeps all the financial topics (buy/sell/trade/price help) together and helps keep any potential price police issues out of general area.

-- Also, it works well for the people that are not on the forums every minute as the general discussion forum fills a page with posts every 2 1/2 hours. Also, it

-- The structure of the Trading Post sections (ie: posts begin with WTB: for example) lends itself to a "PQ:" title (Pricing Question).

Speaking of the Trading Post. I've had someone suggest the title was misleading, since the for sale/wanted sections might not be best described as 'Trading:'. I'm thinking of renaming the category: Marketplace

But on subject, I'd prefer they were in the General section as well. And just have people flag posts that are unwanted PP...

as a realitively new member of klov, i am starting to get a feel for what prices are like, but having a pricing guide attached to or part of the KLOV lists would be useful - so i would have to agree with sonnyburnett!
you could show the lower, median and upper prices for the same period!
i also think that moving such queries to the trading forums and using the PQ: prefix would make it easier for me to find them too!

When I first heard of the idea of a pricing forums I thought that this wasn't something that was really needed. I have since changed my mind and think that it would be great to have a sub-forum where people can check or ask on a price. As prices are suggested maybe those prices can be noted in a central price guide. Hopefully a comprehensive guide can eventually be compiled.

I think I'm inclined NOT to make a seperate section for pricing questions, which means it they will either stay in the general section or go in the wanted section with a 'PW:' (pricing wanted) or 'PQ:' (pricing question) at the beginning of the title. For the time being I don't care which. I'm going to deal with a bunch of pending matters here soon and I'll clear this up then.

Regarding a price guide. This is tough, and would require a decent amount of work to be accurate. Unless someone here is volunteering to make it their pet project it it unlikely to happen. I think it would be really easy for such a guide to be misleading rather than helpful. Most of the games we collect don't currently trade often enough in any given area in any given condition to have any stable pricing... As far as grabbing data from eBay, that isn't that easy either for a variety of reasons (not all technical) that I need not get into at the moment.
